When Dickinsfield
officially opened on May
28, 1979, it was one of the most modern and innovative extended
care centres to be developed at that time. It was the first facility
in the province to integrate auxiliary hospital and nursing home
residents - a program designed to avoid the necessity of moving
a resident when their condition changed.
Dickinsfield is located in northeast Edmonton.
The centre has 275 continuing care beds and offers many different
programs that are customized to meet the individual needs of our
residents. The centre care units provide specialized care for
residents:
Special
Care Units
Secure - For residents with dementia who are ambulatory
and at risk of leaving the building.
Supportive
- For residents in middle to later stages of dementia who require
supportive care, but are not able to leave the building independently.
Comfort
- For residents in later stages of dementia who require enhanced
care, but are not able to leave the building independently.
Young
Adult - Young adults who are disabled and require continuing
care services.
Dickinsfield also operates the
Young Adult
Day Support Program and provides support services to
McConnell Place
North, an innovative model of continuing care that is the first
of its kind in Canada.
Care
Team
The care
team
meets regularly to identify and address the needs of residents through
team meetings and ongoing interdisciplinary consultation.
