Opened November 9, 2005, the Kipnes Centre for Veterans is the newest
of CapitalCare’s 11 continuing care centres.
The centre, which replaced the Mewburn Veterans' Centre on the city’s
south side, is a residential-style two-storey neighbourhood located
on 1.93 hectares of land on the northwest corner of the former Griesbach
military base in north Edmonton. The centre's eight houses are home
to 120
long term care residents, and the central core is town square with a pub,
chapel, barber shop, exercise room and coffee shop.
Veterans who have been assessed as requiring continuing care currently
have priority at the Kipnes Centre for Veterans. The new centre
can also accommodate female veterans and resident veterans' spouses who
have been assessed as requiring continuing care.
The YMCA operates a children’s daycare inside the Kipnes Centre
for Veterans. The daycare has 48 spaces for children aged 19 months
to six years old. For more information about the daycare, please
call the YMCA at 780.429.5716 or visit their website at
www.edmonton.ymca.ca.
In addition to continuing care services, Kipnes
Centre for Veterans offers
an
adult
day
program.
Care Team
The care
team
meets regularly to identify and address the needs of residents through
