CapitalCare Lynnwood first opened on October 14, 1966.
The centre opened with 100 beds and has grown into a 300 bed
continuing
care facility. It is the largest centre within CapitalCare and provides
support services to McConnell Place West and Laurier House Lynnwood
-- new and innovative models of continuing care that are the first
of their kind in Canada.
CapitalCare Lynnwood is located in Edmonton's west end.
The centre's care units provide specialized care for residents:
Special
Care Units
Secure - For residents with dementia who are ambulatory
and at risk of leaving the building.
Supportive - For residents in middle to later stages of
dementia who require supportive care, but are not able to leave
the building independently.
Comfort - For residents in later stages of dementia who
require enhanced care, but are not able to leave the building independently.
Mental
Health
- A therapeutic and protective model of care within the continuing
care system for elderly residents with chronic mental illness and
physical frailty.
The
Behavioural Assessment and Stabilization Unit
-
Clients with dementia are admitted for a comprehensive assessment
and stabilization of complex behaviour. Following this short term
stay and once an ongoing care plan is established, clients are moved
to another care setting.
Care Team
The care
team
meets regularly to identify and address the needs of residents through
team meetings and ongoing interdisciplinary consultation.
