THANK YOU
to all our participants for lacing up your shoes to run or walk
in the ninth annual Run for the Brave on Saturday, August 25 in
support of Veterans living in care.
They ran
for fun. They ran in memory. They ran for their Heroes.
More than
200 participants of all ages braved the wind at the Edmonton
Garrison. Everyone had a story.
One man
carried the medals his father earned during his career in the
Service; two ladies ran in memory of their uncle; veterans
participated in remembrance of their contribution to WW II and
Korea and for their comrades; others ran for the cause.
The
stories were incredible.
One woman,
struggling on the 10km route, was motivated to keep running by
the thought of soldiers in trenches making far greater sacrifice
than any of us ever will.
Anne &
Nigel Forge, dedicated supporters of the run and top pledge
earners, arranged a “satellite location” while on holidays to
walk a 5km route with friends in Nanoose Bay, BC the morning of
August 25.
Doug & Don
Calder, brothers who have supported the run for years after
their dad was in care at Kipnes Centre for Veterans, challenged
everyone in attendance to “bring a friend” to the event next
year.
Who will
you bring August 24, 2013?
Run for
the Brave is a 10K road race and 5K family fun walk in support
of elderly and disabled adults living in CapitalCare long-term
care centres in Edmonton and area.
Sincere
gratitude to our sponsors and contributors for your support:
