In January 1996, Capital Health funded and introduced the
Comprehensive Home Option of Integrated Care (CHOICE) for the
elderly in Edmonton, a first in Canada in partnership with
CapitalCare and The Good Samaritan Society. The program was designed
to assist seniors to
continue living independently and in their own home longer, by managing
all their health requirements.
The
first CapitalCare CHOICE
program opened on March 21, 1996, and is located at
Dickinsfield. On October
21, 1997, the second
CHOICE program opened
as a free-standing facility at the
Norwood
site.
Through
a unique partnership between Alberta Mental Health Board and Capital
Health, the CHOICE Mental Health Program was developed
and is operated by CapitalCare. This CHOICE program serves
frail, elderly people who are experiencing serious, persistent
mental health problems. Participants continue to live in their own
home and be active in the community while having their medical and
mental health needs met.
