On
May 30, 1996, the Mental Health Unit was opened on the third floor
of the Roger Parker Pavilion at Lynnwood in
west Edmonton. This secure unit accommodates 43 residents in private
and semi-private rooms.
Care
Team
The
care
team meets regularly to identify
and address the needs of all program residents through team meetings
and ongoing interdisciplinary consultation.

Two sun rooms located at the end of each corridor for resident
and visitor use
The purpose of the program is to provide a specialized model of
care that is both therapeutic and protective for the mentally ill
within the continuing care system.

Eligibility The Mental Health Unit is designed to provide specialized services
for clients who:

are 65 years or older. Consideration may be given to admission
of for persons 55 - 65 years of age depending on physical condition
and history of disruptive behavior
-
have a diagnosed psychiatric illness and have been assessed and
treated for the psychiatric illness
-
require 24-hour nursing care
-
have disruptive behaviors which require ongoing individual management
strategies.
