Residents
live in a centre three or four days a week and the rest of the week
at home with community support services. Another part-time resident
uses the room for the remainder of the week. This program differs
from the Respite Care Program because this is a more permanent arrangement.
This program is offered at Dickinsfield
and Norwood.
Respite
care is a program which enables you, the home caregiver, to take
a break. The person you look after can be cared for on a short term
basis at a continuing care centre. You may be recuperating from
surgery, or you may wish to take a vacation, look after business
matters, or just relax for a few days.
The Respite Care Program allows you to do these things while your
relative continues to receive supportive care. Respite care helps
you take time for yourself: it may, in fact, extend the time your
family can be together. You may use the program as often as you
wish.
We will do our best to continue the type of care you provide at
home. Our nursing staff will ensure that your relative is as comfortable
as possible. We also offer a wide range of recreation activities
as part of our respite program. You are most welcome to bring in
pictures or any other items to make the room personal and home-like.
Care
Team
The
care
team meets regularly to identify
and address the needs of all program residents through team meetings
and ongoing interdisciplinary consultation.
Eligibility
A person who is eligible for a long term care facility, but who
lives in the community is eligible for respite care.
