Chronic Ventilator Unit (Red Eagle Ridge)

This is an Alberta Health Services program for residents within the region who need assistance with breathing using a ventilator. Red Eagle Ridge opened at Norwood on May 9, 2006.

The goal of the program is to provide a safe, home-like environment for residents requiring ongoing ventilator-assisted respiration. The environment provides as much freedom as possible by giving physical, emotional, mental and spiritual care to the resident, family and friends.

Care Team
The
care team meets regularly to identify and address the needs of all program residents through team meetings and ongoing interdisciplinary consultation.

Eligibility
The Red Eagle Ridge Unit is designed for clients who:

  • require chronic ventilation

  • need care to manage the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual symptoms

  • are medically stable, not requiring tracheotomy care and suctioning more than every 4-6 hours or 1:1 direct care or supervision

Fees
Many services are covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. There may, however, be some additional charges for certain things such as phone and internet hook ups. Continuing care centres have a daily room and board fee.
