Supporting Staff Education To Enhance Person-Centred Care

The new year often inspires us to pursue new goals like professional development or continuing education. CapitalCare is proud to support staff committed to Growing and Learning by funding education via the Post Secondary Education Funding (PSEF) bursary program. Funded by the CapitalCare Foundation, the bursary provides funding for staff completing work-related programs, like Kousik Ramachandran, a Physiotherapist at CHOICE South Restorative and 2025 recipient of the PSEF bursary program.

Kousik is currently enrolled in the Advanced Vestibular Physical Therapy one-year program at the University of Pittsburgh. This Advanced physical therapy program will improve his ability to address dizziness and balance issues in his clientele, exemplifying his commitment to providing person-centred care.

“Many senior clients struggle with dizziness and balance issues,” says Kousik. The knowledge Kousik is gaining will help him create more accurate assessments and identify targeted interventions for CapitalCare clients. “I can now better differentiate between peripheral and central vestibular disorders and design individualized treatment plans that improve client’s mobility and reduce fall risk.”

Kousik is interested in pursuing further certifications in neurological rehabilitation from the University of Alberta and possibly a PhD program specializing in balance disorders. His passion for helping clients with complex conditions fuels his dedication to Growing and Learning, and the PSEF bursary program supports him in his pursuits.

“The bursary significantly reduces the financial burden of tuition and related expenses, making it easier for me to focus on learning rather than worrying about costs,” says Kousik. “It not only helps you achieve your educational goals but also demonstrates that the organization values and invests in career development. If you’re very committed to learning and improving client care, this bursary can make a big difference.”

CapitalCare and the CapitalCare Foundation are grateful for staff like Kousik who embody our commitment to providing person-centred care. Assisting the educational pursuits of staff in CapitalCare’s community is yet another way to foster healthy and sustainable living, support a healthy organization, and demonstrate our leadership in continuing care.

Your generous donations to the CapitalCare Foundation make a difference. They allow our staff, like Kousik, to pursue their educational goals and provide the best care possible for your loved ones.
