Senior Leadership Biographies

Isabel Henderson

Isabel Henderson is a healthcare professional with over 25 years of diversified experience in the health care industry as a senior executive, educator and consultant.

She is currently Executive Director, Special Projects - Alberta Health Services. Previous roles have included Interim Chief Zone Officer (Edmonton Zone), Senior Operating Officer, Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (GRH) and   Trustee of the GRH Foundation Board.  In 2015 she was appointed as Chair, CapitalCare Management Advisory Committee (CCAC).  

Isabel is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor within the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Alberta and a member of the Honorary Editorial Board of the Journal of Healthcare Leadership. She has been a surveyor with Accreditation Canada since 2008.


 

Eleanor Risling

Eleanor Risling has over 35 years of professional experience in healthcare including leading and implementing initiatives throughout Alberta Health Services (AHS). Over the course of her career, she has worked in clinical, education, research and administrative roles in both acute and continuing care.  She has served in leadership roles within the Continuing Care sector at site, zone and provincial levels for the majority of her nursing career.  Her current full-time position is Executive Director, Continuing Care, Edmonton Zone. 

Eleanor is a Registered Nurse who completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Alberta and maintains her professional designation with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Eleanor is proud member of the CapitalCare Advisory Committee (CCAC).  She is passionate about ensuring residents have quality-of-life in settings that foster innovation and person-centred care.  She strongly advocates for the continuing care sector and consistently seeks opportunities to enhance programs, services and supports for those served within this sector. 


 

Bill Bright, CPA, CMA

Bill Bright is an accomplished leader with 35 years of experience in healthcare as well as in public and private industry.  As a finance professional, Bill brings his business acumen and leadership in support of operational areas to meet their strategic goals.  Bill is currently an Executive Director in Business Advisory Services at Alberta Health Services.

Bill is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).  Even though he has gained experience in positions held in other industries, it has always been his passion and commitment to healthcare that brought him back.

Bill has been a member of the CapitalCare Advisory Committee (CCAC) since 2016.  He feels CapitalCare is an outstanding organization and the work they do in support of patients and families is so important.  He is proud to be a member of the advisory committee.


 

Aileen Wong RN, SCM

Aileen Wong is a registered nurse with 35 years’ experience including 15 years of progressive healthcare management experience.
Aileen is very passionate about providing residents with quality of life and ensuring their voice is heard.  She promotes teamwork and innovation with her staff in meeting resident needs and providing person-centred care.  She is a strong advocate for promoting quality care and safe practices for both residents and staff.

Aileen joined CapitalCare in 2014 as the manager of Infection Prevention and Control, Standards and Audits, and became administrator of the Kipnes Centre for Veterans in 2016. In 2021 she moved to CapitalCare Lynnwood as the Site Director. In August 2022, Aileen accepted the role of Chief Operating Officer for CapitalCare. 

Prior to that Aileen worked in a number of positions with Alberta Health Services including; director for Patient Relations, Edmonton Zone; manager for Quality Improvements and Consultation Services, Facility Living. She has also been a director of care with Extendicare Inc.

Aileen immigrated to Canada from Ireland in 1990 where she graduated from the Richmond Hospital in Dublin as a registered nurse and the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin as a state certified midwife (SCM).


 

Marie Owen

Marie Owen grew up in rural southern Ontario and received her diploma in nursing from St Joseph’s School of Nursing in Guelph.  Shortly after graduation, she moved to Edmonton and began working as a staff nurse in intensive care at the Misericordia Hospital. During her 10 years at the Misericordia, Marie completed a bachelor's degree as well as her Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Alberta.  She then worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Cardiac Teaching Coordinator in ICU. In 1986 Marie married her husband Rick and moved to Mannville Alberta where she became the Director of Patient Care Services at the Mannville Municipal Hospital.

As regionalization began in Alberta, Marie moved to Stettler to become the site administrator at Stettler Hospital and Care Center. She worked in senior level positions for East Central Health as well as David Thompson Health Region prior to joining the Canadian Patient Safety Institute as a Senior Director in 2008. 

Marie has been a surveyor for Accreditation Canada for over 30 years and has done and continues to do international surveys for Accreditation Canada International.

Marie’s interest in CapitalCare started in 2011 when her father-in-law, Jack Owen was admitted to the Kipnes Centre for Veterans. During the seven years Jack lived there, his family was witness to truly excellent care from the most committed, compassionate staff imaginable. “We are forever grateful to the leadership and front-line staff at the Kipnes Centre for giving Jack a quality-of-life as a resident in long term care we never thought possible”.

It is truly an honor to be asked to serve on the CapitalCare Advisory Committee.


 

Jackie Rae Greening

Jackie Rae Greening (J.R.) has worked in country radio since 1982. In 1989, Jackie Rae began working at CFCW Radio, where she's still working today as Program Director, Mid-Day Announcer and Manager of Operations for Stingray Radio in Edmonton, Camrose, Wetaskiwin.

Over her 40 years in radio, J.R. has volunteered for numerous events and charities including the CapitalCare Foundation and the Canadian Country Music Association. This has led her to being a recipient of some significant awards:

  • 2022:  Received an Honorary Doctorate at MacEwan University for her support and promotion of Canadian Country Music artists over the past four decades and for her community involvement and volunteering
  • 2022:  Inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, Builder Category for years of volunteering and promoting the sport of curling
  • 2018:  Received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Edmonton Mayfield Rotary Club
  • 2018:  Inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, Builder
  • 2017:  Inducted into the Country Music Alberta Hall of Fame, Builder

Currently J.R. sits on various Boards:

  • Hec Gervais Scholarship Foundation.
  • Co-chair of MacEwan University’s Distinguished Visiting Artist in Country Music fundraising program.
  • Honorary Chair of the Friends of St. Michaels Health Group.
  • Honorary Chair of The Breath-For-Life fundraising campaign for the Alberta Lung Association.
  • Member of the CapitalCare Advisory Committee (CCAC).
